Material families are different
Full PVC decking is a manufactured polymer product; capped composite is a separate family. Hardwood is real wood with natural variation, while modified woods use distinct treatment processes. Accoya is acetylated, not thermally modified. A quote should identify the actual product line instead of grouping all wood-look boards under one label.
Consider appearance and maintenance
Wood can be maintained with an appropriate finish or allowed to weather, depending on the application and guidance. PVC follows its collection's cleaning instructions and has manufactured finishes. Compare samples and the warranty conditions of the selected product; do not assume every line has the same coverage or maintenance requirements.
Include the supporting assembly
Fasteners, spacing, fascia and framing instructions vary by product. Replacing an old deck surface does not establish that the existing frame is suitable for the replacement. Ask an installer to review the structure and prepare a takeoff that includes transitions, stairs and compatible accessories. Local availability and delivery timing also belong in the comparison.
